FAQs
What is naturopathic care, anyways?
We offer you-centered, whole-person care that blends science, strategy, and compassion.
I’m a licensed naturopathic doctor in British Columbia, which means I can:

Not ready for a 1:1 visit? The PCOS Pivot course, is a great first step.
Do you only see people with PCOS?
PCOS is my main clinical focus—and a deep passion. It’s what I teach about, speak on, and have supported thousands of people through since starting practice in 2010. But I also know that people with PCOS are whole humans, not just a diagnosis.
That’s why I also work with non PCOS people navigating related concerns like hormone shifts (think: perimenopause, menopause, irregular cycles, other menstrual issues), digestion (think: IBS, SIBO, disorder of the gut-brain), metabolic health (think: high cholesterol, insulin resistance, or diabetes). You can see my non-PCOS focused drdeschat.com website here. I’m not a “treat everything” kind of doctor—because I care deeply about staying evidence-informed. But I do offer compassionate, informed care for people dealing with complex, interconnected health concerns—whether PCOS is part of the picture or not.
Not sure if you have PCOS?
If you suspect you might have PCOS or just really relate to some the symptoms (you don’t need to have them all) irregular menses, high androgenic symptoms like acne, hair loss, excess body hair or been told you have ovaries that meet the criteria for PCOS on ultrasound—you’re welcome here. We can figure it out together. Whether it is or isn’t.
And if you’re thinking, “I just ended up here because I like your vibe, but I know I don’t have PCOS,” no problem at all. My broader practice might be a better fit: www.drdeschat.com
Will I get personalized medical advice?
If you’re a British Columbia resident booking a 1:1 naturopathic visit, yes—you’ll be entering into a doctor–patient relationship. That means I can order labs, prescribe when appropriate, and offer personalized recommendations based on your health history and goals.
But if you’re joining a workshop, taking the PCOS Pivot course, or following along on social media, that’s education—not medical treatment. These resources are designed to help you become a more informed, empowered patient so you can ask clearer questions, understand your options, and make decisions that work for you.
In fact, many people find they get more out of their 1:1 care—whether with me or another provider—because they come in with more clarity and PCOS IQ.
What if I’m already working with a provider or following another plan?
Absolutely. This course is designed to complement your care — not compete with it. It gives you tools and context to better understand what you’re doing and why, and helps you feel more in control of the process and can make the most of your visits.
Do you offer lab testing?
Yes. We interpret labs through a PCOS-specific lens, including hormone, metabolic, and thyroid markers. If you’re not ready for a visit, our free PCOS Lab Guide + Workshop is a great place to start.
Where do appointments take place?
Most visits are virtual—secure, face-to-face care through a simple Zoom link. It’s flexible, convenient, and makes it easier to fit appointments into real life (whether that’s parenting, commuting, or working from home).
I do offer occasional in-person visits from my Burnaby office. If something comes up that can’t be fully addressed virtually, I’ll let you know clearly and walk you through the next steps. That said, PCOS care is highly suited to virtual visits, and the vast majority of patients find it both effective and empowering.
What kind of results can I expect — and how soon?
That depends on your starting point and how you apply what you learn. Some people notice early shifts in clarity, energy, or confidence. Others feel change more gradually as they put the tools into practice. Either way, you’ll have support every step of the way.
How do I pay? And what about insurance?
How much does it cost? Care is personalized, so fees vary based on the type of visit or service. What labs you already have or which ones you need. What else is going on in your health. Fill out the booking form and Nicole will walk you through this.
Is naturopathic care covered by MSP? No—British Columbia’s Medical Services Plan (MSP) doesn’t cover naturopathic visits. However, many people have extended benefits that do.
We accept e-transfer, Visa, and Mastercard. We will issue you a receipt you can use for your extended health plan.
By special request, we offer limited direct billing to some extended health care providers.
Can I see Dr Melanie ND if I already have a family doctor?

Naturopathic care works alongside conventional care to fill in the gaps—especially when it comes to hormone and metabolic concerns that conditions that are tough to manage in a 7 minute visit.
